Phillip Wedding, 91, died at 2:10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Jerseyville Manor in Jerseyville, IL. He was born October 12, 1923 in Jerseyville the son of Collie E. and Zoe B. (Gillespie) Wedding. He served in the US Army as a Sgt First Class in the pacific theatre during WWII where he earned four bronze stars, and he also was in the Korean War. He was port engineer on the river and a welder for Norman Brothers. He later retired as a pipefitter and troubleshooter from Olin Corporation. He was a member of the Alton Eagles, Jerseyville Elks Club and VFW Post 1308 in Alton. On May 15, 1948 in Godfrey he married Barbara Norman and she survives. Also surviving are four sons and one daughter; Steve Wedding (Jan) of Godfrey, Collie Wedding (Debbie) of Godfrey, Zoe Ann Clyde (Mark) of Jerseyville, Ted Wedding (Karen) of Alton and Adam Wedding (Angel) of Yellow Creek, Ohio, 16 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one sister; Sarah Wade of Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by three sisters; Belva Crain, his twin; Phyllis Przybylski and Orpha Witt and seven brothers; Charles, Eugene, Thomas, James, William and twins; Clinton and Quinton Wedding. Visitation will be Thursday, November 6, 2014 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at GENT Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday with Father D. Patrick Gibbons officiating. Burial will be at Noble Cemetery in Otterville, IL with full military honors by VFW Post 1308 of Alton. Memorials may be made to Honor Flight Program.
