Peggy Zimmerman

Peggy L. Zimmerman, age 66, of Cottage Hills, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Christian North East Hospital.She was born April 13, 1950, in East St. Louis, the daughter of Raymond and Mary Mildred (Dockins) Roberson. Peggy retired as a Staff Representative of AFSCME Council 31.She was active in the community and was a member of the Greater Madison County Federation of Labor, Southwestern Illinois Democratic Women, AFSCME Retiree Sub-Chapter 59, precinct committee woman and Alton VFW #1308 Women’s Auxilliary. She worked most of her life fighting for others' rights. Peggy also volunteered at the Hope Center.Her greatest joy was her family and she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved vacationing with family and friends, spending time on the water and shopping. She enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids participate in sports. Countless weekends were spent traveling to support them, watching cheerleading or her long time favorite, wrestling.She is survived by four children and a son-in-law, Dallas Zimmerman of Bethalto, Tammie and Chris Blevins of Moro, Jodi Kaye Zimmerman of Cottage Hills, and Travis Zimmerman of Cottage Hills; nine grandchildren, Chelsea, Dez, Aerika, Kylea, Dakota, Kale, Noa, Harper, and Averee; four greatgrandchildren, Raegan, Azuriah, Malachi, Ryann and another great grandson on the way; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Zimmerman; a brother Lowell Roberson; and three grandchildren, Mary, Teagan, and Blaize. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 2, 2017, at 10:00 am in the funeral home chapel with Pastor David Prosser officiating.A private family interment will take place at a later date.Online condolences may be left at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com.
