ALTON – Peggy Ann (Westfall) Rittenhouse, 62, died at 10:43 p.m., Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis,, MO after a long and courageous battle with her health. Peggy was born on January 10, 1955, one of six children born to the Jasper Allen Westfall Jr. & Frances (Talley) Westfall. She was a lifelong resident of Alton and graduated with the class of 1974 from Alton High School. After High School, she went on to further her education at Lewis & Clark Community College. She married Joseph Allen Rittenhouse on December 1, 1990, and together they were married for 5 years before their time was cut all to short with Joe’s death in January of 1996.Peggy worked as a cook for many years at various locations throughout the Alton area including the VFW Post 1308, prior to its closing, at which time she began working at Fountains IV in Godfrey, where she retired as Head Cook in 2014 after several years of service. In her spare time, Peggy enjoyed sewing and embroidery, reading a good book, planting flowers outside her home and enjoying a good scary movie. It was her family, however, who brought Peggy the most joy in life. Her brothers and sisters, many nieces and nephews, and most especially her mother, provided Peggy with many wonderful memories and blessings throughout her life and her love and compassion for them all is something they will never forget. Surviving are her mother, Frances Westfall Crumley of Alton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jeanne & Dennis Lacy of Jerseyville and Sandra & Ahmed Maragha of Plainfield, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Allen & Beth Westfall of Alton and George Terry & Julie Westfall of Godfrey; a step-sister, Linda Zaganelli; 6 nieces; 6 nephews; 4 great-nieces and 4 great-nephews; as well as 1 great-great niece and 2 great-great nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father, Jasper Allen Westfall Jr; a brother, Harry Jasper Westfall; as well as her step-father, Bob Crumley. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral Services will take place at 10 a.m., Tuesday at the Charity Christian Center in Jerseyville with burial following at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Jerseyville. In lieu of any flowers or plants, memorials may be given to the Family, in care of Crawford Funeral Home.
