Peggy Ann Mayes, 73 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Monday, November 12, 2018 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Peggy was born on July 6, 1945 in Venice, Illinois; the daughter of the late Melvin and Jimmie (Moats) Mayes. Peggy had worked at many metro area jewelry stores and had last worked for Mid America Pawn and Jewelry in Maryville as a saleswoman.
She was a faithful member of Word of Life Tabernacle in Granite City and in her free time she enjoyed spending time with her family. Peggy will be remembered for her kind heart and all the special times she shared with her family and friends.
Peggy is survived by and will be missed by her son; Steve Mayes of Granite City, IL; life companion, Chris Mathenia of Granite City, IL; sisters, Willowdeen Walker, Rosalie King; brothers, Gary (Beverly) Mayes, Winston (Sylvia) Mayes; her doggies, Starr, Daisy and Hudson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many other close family members and friends.
Visitation for Peggy will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of Peggy’s life, services will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
