Peggy Ann Burns, 82, died at 1:13 a.m., Monday, November 7, 2011 at Alton Memorial Hospital.She was born in St. Louis, Mo., on March 5, 1929, she was one of six children born to the late Ross & Marie Blanche (Crawford) DeSherlia.Peggy was raised in Grafton, and was a graduate of the Grafton High School. As a lifelong resident of Grafton, Peggy and her husband, Stanley, owned and operated Peg & Stans Restaurant in Grafton for 20 years, and she continued to be admired for her hospitality, always enjoying cooking for family and anyone else that walked through their doorway. She also enjoyed playing bingo, but her true joy was spent with her grandchildren.Surviving are her husband, Stanley Burns; two sons & a daughter in law, Randy & Becky Burns of Grafton, and Jim Burns of Ramsey; a daughter & son in law, Sandy & Mike Romano of Godfrey; five grandchildren & their spouses, Andy Austin of Arkansas, Chad & Amie Burns of Freeburg, Amy & Joel Hall of Alton, Rose & Jesse Wilson of Florissant, Mo., and Michael Romano of St. Louis; eight great grandchildren; and a sister & brother in law, Joyce & Bob Senger of Grafton.She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Paul DeSherlia & Claude DeSherlia; and two sisters, Dorothy Hodge & Delores Berrigan.Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the St. Patricks Catholic Church in Grafton, with Father Patrick Gibbons officiating.Burial will be in the Scenic Hill Cemetery in Grafton.Memorials may be given to Pan-Can, an organization dedicated to the research & elimination of pancreatic cancer.
