Pearl Gruen

Pearl A. Gruen, 101, passed away at 4:13, August 9, 2017 at St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton.  She was born in Jamestown, Illinois on July 7, 1916, the daughter of the late Gustave and Wilhelmina (Remmert) Strotheide.She married Elmer Gruen on March 27, 1937 in Grand Fork, Illinois.  He preceded her in death on June 19, 1995.Pearl was a homemaker for many years and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.  She will be fondly remembered for caring for all of the neighborhood kids.She is survived by her children and their spouses, Daniel (Kathy) Gruen of Walshville, IL; Marilyn (John) Sticht of Bethalto, IL and a daughter-in-law Barbara Gruen, of Pontoon Beach; a sister, Eunice Wernle of Jamestown, IL; 4 grandchildren, Jeff (Linda) Sticht of Philadelphia, PA, Todd Sticht of Maryville, Dave Bareither of Mattoon IL, Kendra (Jason) Criveau of Alton. 3 great grandchildren Josh Sticht, Lydia Criveau and Wilemina Criveau and many other relatives and friends.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Kenneth Gruen and four sisters, Viola Strotheide,  Ella Senne, Hilda Gassmann and Irma Wiess.Visitation will be Monday August 14, 2017 from 9am until the service at 11am at Concordia Lutheran Church in Cottage Hills with Rev. Matthew Gehrke officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.  Memorials may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church in Cottage Hills.Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is in charge of arrangements.
