Paul Greer

Wood River – Paul Ray Greer, 86, passed away at 4:41 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2015 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton. Paul was born September 16, 1929 in Granite City. He was a son of the late Eddy L. and Tacy (Shastid) Greer. Paul married the former Wanda Jones on December 26, 1953 in Cornith, Miss. She passed away November 13, 2012. After serving 12 years in the Navy, he worked for the Norfolk and Southern Railway as Police Department Lieutenant of Detectives. After 30 years, Paul retired in 1985. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Trula Greer of Rutherford College, NC, Bruce and Sherree Greer of Morehead, KY; nine grandchildren, Gary Greer of Fairview Heights, Jonathan Greer of Sapulpa, OK, Bethany Greer of Edwardsville, Nathan Greer of Edwardsville, Zachary Greer of Edwardsville, Christopher Greer of Wood River, Jordan Greer of Edwardsville, Caitlin Winkler of Grayson, KY, Benjamin Winkler of Lexington, KY; four great-grandchildren, Brady Greer, Noah Greer, Stephen Greer, Spenser Greer; one sister, Gracie Hoerman of Sycamore. Besides his wife and parents, Paul was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Jack Greer. A celebration of Paul’s life will begin at 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 26, 2015 at Gray Funeral Home with Paul’s son Rev. Stephen Greer officiating. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. In Lieu of flowers the family has requested Hartland Hospice as Memorials.
