Paul M. Long, 81, of Jerseyville, died at 7:50 am, Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.
He was born in Jerseyville, IL on June 6, 1937 the only child of Harold Long and Elizabeth (Schlansker) Long-Murrie, both deceased. He married Theresa Kraus on July 30, 1960 in Jerseyville and she survives.
He is survived by a daughter, Danette (Jeff) Schroeder of Dow, IL and a son, Jeff (Michelle) Long of Windermere, FL; and three grandchildren, Andrew, Ethan and Bailey Long, all of Florida.
He worked many years in the insurance industry and retired from Millers Mutual as an underwriter for the Mill and Elevator Division. Paul enjoyed woodworking projects and collecting Blue and White & Old Sleepy Eye stoneware. He loved traveling on cruises with his family and spending time in Florida during the winter months with his grandchildren.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jerseyville. For eight years he served in the Air Force Reserves. He was a member of the Jerseyville Masonic Lodge #394 and was a past District Deputy Grand Master of the 13th Western District of Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of the State of Illinois.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday August 23, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville, IL, with Pastor Brent Meyer officiating, with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday August 22, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville. Masonic services will be held at 3:45 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Jersey Community Hospital Foundation or the First Baptist Church of Jerseyville. Alexander Gubser Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
