Paul L. Shelby
Alton- Paul L. Shelby, 80, died at 10:41 a.m. Friday, April 7th, 2017 at Alton Memorial Hospital of cardiac arrest.
He was born August 2, 1936 in East St. Louis, IL. He was the son of the late Reverend Luther E. and Winnie L. Shelby.
He attended school in Roxana, graduating from high school in 1955.
On August 2, 1958 he married Joyce M. Hand, in Alton. She survives.
He was a millwright at Granite City Steel for 43 years, retiring in 1998. He was a 46 year member of Calvary Baptist Church, and had a nursing home ministry at Elder Care of Alton for 30 + years. He helped organize four high school class reunions. He was a proud member of United Steel Workers of America and Grail Impala Auto Club. He was a car enthusiast and enjoyed NASCAR and traveling.
Surviving are two daughters and son in-law. Laura M. Morgan of Alton, Denise R. and Jerald Small of Alton. Two grandchildren, Dustin (Danielle) McCann of Roxana, and Holly (Tony) Snyder of Mason City, IL, and a great grandchild, Sofia Reese McCann.
Preceding him in death were two sisters, Maxine Boring and Alice Waters and an infant brother.
Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017. Reverend Andre’ Dobson will officiate.
Burial is in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be given to Calvary Baptist Church, Alton.
