PAUL WHITE
JERSEYVILLE – Paul J. White, 86, died at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Jerseyville.
He was born on February 20, 1930 in Jiles County, TN one of ninechildren born to the late Roy & Lyda Mae (Hardiman) White.
Paul grew up in Tennessee and after graduating High School enlisted with the United States Army Air Corp where he served our country while stationed in both Alaska and Korea. After his honorable discharge from the Military, Paul moved to Peoria where he began working for Caterpillar where he retired in 1985 after 30 years as a Machine Operator.
He married the former Opal Katherine Ontis on May 14, 1955 in Peoria and the two made their home in Delavan for many years before relocating to in 1985. Together they shared in 49 years of marriage before her death on July 24, 2004.
Paul loved to fish and camp, He and Opal spent many years traveling together in their motor home and particularly enjoyed their annual trip to Minnesota. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and would rarely miss watching a game.
In short, Paul was simply a good person and he will be deeply missed by his family and those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Surviving are a step-son, Kenneth Evans of Jerseyville; a grandson and his spouse, Philip & Lorie Tewell of Jerseyville; three great-grandchildren, Philip Austin Tewell; Arielle Leanne Tewell and Ashton Elizabeth Tewell; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Modena Hull of Peoria Heights; Dottie & Lee Reynolds of Glasford and Frances Lowrimore of Yucaita, CA; two brothers, Tony White of Stuart, FL and Steven White of West Peoria; a sister-in-law, Nena White of Sacramento, CA; as well as four nieces and four nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy K., James W. and Don W. White; as well as a step-daughter in-law, Janice Evans.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, September 23, 2016 at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the Gospel Assembly Church in Jerseyville where Paul was a member. The Rev. Clyde Shaw will officiate.
Burial will take place at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville with the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting full military honors.
