Paul D. Copeland, 80, died at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at his residence. He was born July 29, 1936 in Alton the son of Joseph and Pauline (Hartman) Copeland. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of Abundant Life Community Church in Alton. He was a fire fighter with the Alton Fire Department and was a cabinet maker for many years and owned Copeland Cabinets with his brother. Paul enjoyed making cabinets, old cars and he took many trips on the old route 66. On February 10, 2012, he married Lois (Funk) in Bakersfield, CA and she survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Kelli Carter (Jami) of Carrolton and one son, Shawn Copeland (Nikki) of Godfrey, three stepsons, Kevin Funk (Laurie) of Alton, Karl Funk (Debbie) of Missouri and Mark (Jennifer) of Warsaw, MO. Six grandchildren, Michael Copeland, Brian Copeland, Shawn Copeland, Caleb Carter, Ryder Copeland and Lydia Copeland, four great grandchildren, Addison, Ainsley, Oliver and Logan Copeland, one brother, William “Bill” Copeland (Edna) of Bethalto and two sisters, Marylin Melton of Bakersfield, CA, and Roberta “Bertie” Kennett of Stanton, KY. He was preceded in death by one son, Dan Copeland, and three brothers, Dean Edmond, Dwayne and Carlos Copeland and two sisters Ruby Harris and Anna Lee Terry and an infant sister. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 10, 2017 with Pastor Roy Rhodes officiating. Burial will be at Short Cemetery in Fosterburg with full military honors from Alton VFW Post 1308. Memorials may be made to The BackStoppers, Inc.
