Paul A. Alben, 91, formerly of Rosewood Heights, passed away at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehab Center.
Born Jan. 16, 1927 in Alton, he was a son of John and Lucia (Virgo) Alben.
He married Mary E. Hill Apr. 17, 1949 in Pocahontas, AR. She preceded him in death Jan. 11, 1996.
A U.S. Navy veteran, Paul worked as an inspector for Owens-Illinois Glass for 40 years. Later he worked at the Wedge Bank. He was a lifetime member of both the Alton VFW Post #1308 and the Alton Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his daughters, Paula (Larry) Thatcher of Bethalto and Dianna (Darrin) Bosco of Rosewood Heights; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Carl D. Alben; his parents; 5 brothers; and 3 sisters.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4 at Paynic Home for Funerals. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Donald Wolford at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
