Patrick Kane

T. Patrick Kane of Godfrey, passed away on January 24, 2018 surrounded by his family

He was the loving husband of Dorothy E. (Begnel) Kane whom he married on August 11, 1951.

Born in Wood River, he was the oldest son of George and Salome (Miller) Kane.  After graduating from Marquette High School, he attended Shurtleff College and was drafted into the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War.  After returning from South Korea in 1953, he married Dorothy and joined his father at Kane Plumbing and assumed ownership of the business after the death of his father in 1956.  Using his entrepreneurial skills, he oversaw the growth and expansion of his business as well as the community.  As an active member of the local Wood River business community.  Pat was involved in the Lion’s Club serving as its President and as a dedicated participant in their annual pancake breakfast.  He was also involved in attracting other businesses to the area including Eastgate Movie Theater, Ponderosa Restaurant in addition to bringing one of the first skilled nursing facilities (VIP Manor Nursing Home) to the Wood River area as builder/owner.

In addition to his business acumen, Pat was a fun-loving Irishman who never passed up an opportunity to travel and enjoy life.  He loved boating and water skiing as well as patiently teaching others to water ski spending Sundays on the river or at the Lake of the Ozarks.  His love of golf manifested itself with the purchase of Rolling Hills Golf Course in 1976.  Pat spent his retirement years actively involved in the operation of Rolling Hills taking it from a simple nine-hole course to an 18-hole course with a new clubhouse and eventually adding a nine-hole executive course.  Intertwined with all of these work and pleasure activities, Pat was a grateful man very committed to his Catholic faith attending Holy Mass almost every day of his adult life.

In addition to his wife, Pat is survived by five children and their spouses, Mary Ellen and Pat Richards, Tom and Janet Kane, John and Joan Kane, Beth and Rob Holtz, and Chris and Nici Kane. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Amy Fahnenstock, Patrick Kane, David Kane, Matt Richards, Mary Mauro, Joe Kane, Jack Kane, Kate Holtz, Danny Holtz, Michael Holtz, Ellie Kane, Annie Kate Kane, and Chloe Kane, 14 great grandchildren, and his brother and sister-in-law, Mike & Joyce Kane as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Saturday January 27, 2018 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey with Fr. Steve Janoski and Fr. Peter Donohoe, con-celebrants.

Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.

A celebration of his life following the interment will be at Rolling Hills Golf Course from 1 – 6 pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Marquette Catholic High School or St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
