Patricia Spencer
Troy | Save
Patricia Ann Spencer (née Woolfolk), 88, of Troy, IL, born on November 11, 1937, in Scottville, IL, passed away peacefully at Evelyn’s House in Creve Coeur, MO.
Patricia was loved by family and friends, and the friends of her children and grandchildren. She was known to all as Meemaw. Small in stature, she was a strong woman with great patience, a wonderful listener, who showed kindness toward everyone.
She grew up on a farm in Macoupin County, Illinois. In 1955, she married Richard Spencer, who had just joined the Air Force. Over the years, she and he, and children, lived in Spain, Nebraska, Florida, and England, before settling in O’Fallon, Illinois.
A creative person, Patricia worked as a florist in Belleville, collected and sold antique glassware, furniture and collectibles, and authored (with her husband) a book about glass animals. An artist, she painted colorful pictures and made wonderful pencil sketches. She loved to read about history and was passionate about politics. She planned and filled her garden with a large variety of plants. A great cook, she excelled at cooking the farm food of her youth, but also learned to cook more exotic dishes.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Thesal Woolfolk (née Maberry); her beloved husband, Richard A. Spencer; and brother, William C. Woolfolk.
Left to cherish Patricia’s memory are four children, Richard Eugene Spencer of Shiloh, IL, Theresa (Dan) Heil of O’Fallon, IL, Lyndell R. (Michelle) Spencer of Palm Coast, FL, Katherine (Doug) Bien of Troy, IL; two brothers, Dick Woolfolk of Sacramento, CA, Melvin Woolfolk of Moline, IL; eight grandchildren, Shaun Spencer of O’Fallon, IL, Natalie Hughes of New York, NY, Sarah (Dusty) Federko of St. Louis, MO, Christen (Tim) Doeschot of St. Louis, MO, Daniel (Brittany) Heil of St. Louis, MO, David Spencer of O’Fallon, IL, Candice Spencer of O’Fallon, IL, Zane Spencer of St. Louis, MO; eight great-grandchildren, Ty Spencer, Ozzie Doeschot, Zella Hughes, Cameron Heil, Brooklyn Heil, Barrett Federko, Ford Federko, Chase Richards; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
