Patricia Smith

Glen Carbon |

Patricia "Pat" Smith, 90,  went peacefully to be with The Lord, Sunday, December 10, 2023.

Born March 17, 1933 in Wood River, she was the daughter of Leo Floyd and Ruth C. (Hammil) Smith.

Pat was a "Force of Nature" who had boundless energy in helping others until her very last days. Her employment with The May Company, beginning in 1973 as an executive administrative assistant, was a source of great pride to her, and she formed many beautiful friendships there. Pat was a somewhat unique career woman of her times, working in the corporate realm of St. Louis,MO since the 1960's.

Most precious to Pat was her relationship with The Lord, and the uncountable friendships that she nurtured at Wood River Assembly of God over the span of 80 plus years. During her last fie years, she worshiped at Abundant Church in Alton. It is impossible to enumerate the many tasks and services she fulfilled as an extremely active church member. She loved decorating for Christmas, and her annual Christmas Party was a highlight of the season for her church family. She had a lilting soprano voice and adored singing hymns.

Anyone that Pat encountered knew immediately that no one could casually dress in a cashmere sweater, perfectly manicured nails, bright lipstick, and high heels as well and as long into life as she did.

Besides being a devout Cristian and true friend, she was happily the beloved "Aunt Pat" for many many people her junior. We are grateful for having loved and being loved by her.

She is survived by her niece Shelley Stewart; nephews, James (Claudia) Stewart and Brad (Cathy) Smith; great niece, Kelsey Stewart,; sister, Arcelia McCue; and beloved friends, Carole Thompson, Tricia (Noel) Nitecki, Savannah and Caroline Nitecki.

Visitation will be from 9:30 am until time of service at 11 am, Monday, December 18, at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.

Internment will follow in Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.

Memorials are suggested in Pat's name to Meridian Village Benevolent Fund, 101 Evergreen Ln, Glen Carbon, IL 62034 and/or Abundant Church, 3986 Humbert Rd, Alton, IL 62002.
