Patricia "Pat" R. Helmkamp, 87, of Moro, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, in Saint Louis, MO.
She was born on March 14, 1936, in Granite City, the daughter of Ray and Ethel (Cowley) Hawks. Pat married Wilbur "Wib" J. Helmkamp on May 10, 1958 at the Neidringhause Methodist Church in Granite City. He preceded her in death on April 2, 2022.
She was a registered nurse working for Alton Memorial Hospital and BJC Alton Physician's Group. She was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ in Midway. Patricia was also a long time member of the Moro Women's Club. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pat is survived by her children, Sue Ellen (Tom) Rayborn of Alton, and Nancy Kessinger of Fosterburg; six grandchildren; and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
Along with her husband, Wilbur, and her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne and Guy East; and a great-grandson, Kaelan Turner.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2023 from 2 to 5 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Visitation will continue on Monday, December 11, 2023 from 10 am until time of service at 11 am, at St. John's U.C.C. in Midway, with Rev. Lori Schafer officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's U.C.C.
