Patience Greene
Alton | Save
Mrs. Patience Scales Greene, age 79 went home to be with the Lord Saturday, October 11, 2014 at her home with her family by her side.
Patience was born December 10, 1934 in Alton to the union of the late Arthur C. and Marcella (Singleton) Scales. She received her from Alton Public School Systems graduating in 1953.
Ms. Scales was reared in a very religious home uniting, at an early age, with the former Campbell Chapel A.M.E. Church later known as Trinity A.M. E. Church; she served her church and community faithfully until her demise: Vice President of the Usher Board, Trustee Member, Building Fund Member, Finance Committee, Sarah Allen Woman Missionary Society, and Superior Member of the Elijah P. Lovejoy Scholarship Committee.
The former Ms. Scales was united in Holy Matrimony, to the love of her life, the late Mr. William Greene on January 17, 1953. To this union was born a daughter, Denise Greene.
Mrs. Greene was employed at the former St. Joseph’s Hospital and St. Anthony’s Hospital for 45 years.
She prized her grandchildren, Landon and Morgan, and was a good role model for them.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Gevena Scales, and 2 brothers, Arthur and Robert Scales.
Left to cherish fond memories: beloved daughter, Denise of Alton; 2 grandchildren, Landon and Morgan Love both of Alton; 2 brothers, Leroy(Lettie)Scales and Dr. Sterling Scales all of Alton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will convene Saturday, October 18 from 8:30 until time of service at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity A.M.E. Church. Interment will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery. Pastor Frederick Gaddy will officiate. Guest Signatures and condolences are available at www.harrisonfuneralchapel.com
