Owen David Smith, 52, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2026 at St. Louis University Hospital.
Born Nov. 17, 1973 in Alton, he was the son of David and Judith (Looper) Smith of Godfrey.
Owen worked as a capper at Olin Corp. for 10 years. He enjoyed duck hunting, deer hunting, and goose hunting, as well as hunting for mushrooms. He fished for trout many times at Bennett Springs. In his younger days he fished for catfish in the Mississippi River. He also raced and rode dirt bikes, then he switched to sport bikes and loved taking scenic rides. In addition, he belonged to the 314 Bike Life motorcycle club. Owen loved tinkering on old vehicles with his sons and his dad. He also volunteered several years at the Community Hope Center in Cottage Hills.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his children, Jacob Smith, Lucas Smith, and Jessica Smith; and two sisters, Lori Schissler and Valerie Cole.
Memorial visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 22 at Paynic Home for Funerals from 2 p.m. until memorial services begin at 4 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.
