Ova C. Zilibotti, age 93 of Glen Carbon, IL born February 3, 1930 in Edwardsville, IL, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Eden Care Center with his wife by his side.
Ova was an Edwardsville High School graduate, Class of 1947. He honorably served in the United States Army. He became a squad leader of a mortar squad in combat, was promoted to Sergeant, was a line cadre in charge of 50 men, and Staff Sergeant at time of discharge.
He began his career in shipping and receiving at Elder Manufacturing Company where he worked for 28 years, 3M Company for 11 years, and Nations Bank for five years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Troy, serving in many positions within the church for over 30 years. He enjoyed being outside and taking long walks.
He was preceded in death by his father, Guy Zilibotti; mother, Wava (nee Cagle) Zilibotti-Slemmer; stepfather, Joseph Slemmer; brother, Guy Zilibotti, Jr.; sister, Anna Slemmer; brother-in-law, Wilbur Slemmer; aunts and uncles.
Surviving are his loving wife, Nancy (nee Meadows) Zilibotti, whom he married August 21, 1974; a nephew, Harold “Butch” (Donna) Slemmer; and a niece, Sandra (Ken) Seaton.
Private graveside services will be held. Burial with military honors will be in Buck Road Cemetery, Maryville, IL.
