Otis Robins

Otis Lee Robins of Fosterburg passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at 8:59 a.m. at the age of 75. He was surrounded by his family in the home he built.

 

The son of the late Clarence and Edna (Davis) Robins, he was born on October 26, 1936, in Advance, Missouri. He married the former Connie Gray Ash on April 7, 1973, in Fosterburg. She survives.

Affectionately known as “Big R,” he resided in rural Fosterburg for nearly 40 years. Over the years, he enjoyed many hobbies such as reading, hunting, fishing, bowling, wood-working, playing cards, and gardening. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and being active, working with his family.

He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Macon from 1954-1958, on duty in Italy and Germany. After returning from service, he moved to the area, working for National Marine. He later became a member of Labor Local #338 in Wood River, Ill., retiring in 1989. For 35 years, he was also the co-owner of The Personal Touch Salon by Connie.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children and their spouses, Barry and Sheri Ash, David Henson and Sherri Ash-Henson , and Luke and Terri Morgenroth, all of Fosterburg, and eldest son from a previous marriage, Robbie and Dawn Robins of Fairview Heights; nine grandchildren, Joshua and William Ash; Jordan (Ron) Rathgeb; Abram, Adrianna, and Kain Henson; Ryan, Zachery, and Abby Robins; four great-grandchildren, Austin and Asher Rathgeb and Shaylin and Bennett Robins; and sisters Mary Armstrong, Shirley Risse, and Carol Cauley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers Harl “Bud,” Thomas, Ray, and Carl Robins, and his eldest grandson, Raleigh Lee Robins.

Visitation will be on Friday, June 29 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton on Edwards Street. Visitation will continue on Saturday, June 30 at 10 a.m. with funeral services following at 11 a.m. at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf. Burial will be private.
