Oscar William Brenner Jr., age 95, of Alton, passed away Friday, September 14, 2018 at 4:03 am at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born February 3, 1923, in Alton IL, the son of Oscar William and June Grace (Nichols) Brenner Sr. On October 16, 1948 he married Edna Henson at St. Matthews Church. She preceded him in death.
Oscar served his country in the United States Marines from 1943 until 1946. He liked telling his story about being in the Army, Navy and Marines all in one day.
He was a member of the Alton VFW Post #1308, where he spent a lot of his time in the game room. Oscar enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and watching horse races. He was a die-hard Cardinal Baseball fan, and was a self-taught harmonica player.
Oscar is survived by 4 children, Barbara A. Gleason (Mike) of Sarasota, FL, James W. Brenner Sr. (Barb) of Brighton, IL, Pat L. Davis (Tom) of Delhi, IL, and Bob Brenner (Barb) of Bunker Hill, IL; 7 grandchildren, Shan Casey (Jay Domen), Chris Davis (Amber), Laura Sams (Brett), James Brenner Jr., Jen Royer (Brandon), Brian Brenner (Sarah), and Melissa Brenner; and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edna; and a sister, Gloria Widel.
A visitation will be held September 17, 2018 from 4:00- 7:00 pm at the Elias Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday September 18, 2018 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alton VFW Post # 1308.
