Orville Taake

Orville H. Taake, 88, died at 5:47 p.m., Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville after a period of declining health.

He was born in Chicago on November 7, 1926, one of five children born to the late Henry and Martha (Schultz) Taake.

His family relocated to the Jerseyville area when Orville was a young boy and he has remained in the area for the majority of his life attending Jerseyville schools and went on to serve our country honorably with the United States Army during World War II, where he was stationed in Milwaukee with the Military Police from 1945 to 1947.

After returning from the service, Orville completed his education, graduating from Alton High School in 1947.

He was employed as a Boilermaker Foreman with Shell Oil Company at the Wood River Refinery, where he retired in 1978 after 36 years of dedicated service.

Orville enjoyed playing cards and golfing as well as traveling, with Florida and Texas being his favorite destinations, and treasured the time spent with his grandchildren.

Surviving are four children and their spouses, Patty & Mike Norris of Jerseyville; Randy and Terri Taake of Jerseyville; Brad and Jean Taake of Jerseyville and Gayla Taake of Livingston; along with thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Charles Smith; a son-in-law, Virgil Allen; a grandson, Shane Allen; three sisters, Carol Schaaf, Ellen Richie and Ethel Smith; as well as a half-brother, Ed Smith.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2015 from 1 p.m. until time of funeral services at 3 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville with Father William Hembrow officiating.

Burial will take place at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville with the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting full military honors.

Memorials may be given to the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools Technology Fund.

Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville is in charge of arrangements.
