Brighton—Orval L. “Red” Sherwood, 86, died Saturday, October 22, 2016 at his home.
Born Nov. 11, 1929 in Carrollton, he was a son of John and Pearl M. (Broyles) Sherwood.
Red was a truck driver for Stahly Trucking for many years before his retirement. He also worked as a union laborer.
He is survived by his children, Ellison L. (Joyce) Sherwood of Wood River, Tim Sherwood of Brighton, Treva Swain of Roxana, Kathy (Bob) Russell of Bethalto, Mark Wagenblast of Holiday Shores, Jennifer Sherwood of Alton, and Orval “J.R.” (Nancy) Sherwood of Brighton; 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; a sister, Charrlette Jones of White Hall, Ill.; and a brother, Donald Sherwood of Wood River.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Helen Ford, Alice Roberts, Vivian Clowers, Mae Broussard, Annedell Verris, Emma Morrow, Mary Grizzle, Johnny Sherwood and Tom Sherwood.
Memorial visitation will be at Paynic Home for Funerals Friday, Oct. 28 from 1 p.m. until memorial services begin at 3 p.m. Steve Sherwood will officiate.
Memorial donations may be made to 5 A’s animal shelter.
