Oren Stonecipher

Oren "Stoney" Lyle Stonecipher, 95, of Bethalto, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at 8:53 pm, at his residence.

He was born on March 7, 1928, in Centralia, IL, the son of John and Ida (Thurston) Stonecipher. He married Alberta Mae Baker on November 14, 1959 in Edwardsville. She preceded him in death on August 1, 2018.

Oren is a Veteran of the United States Army Air Corp and Marines. He worked at Owens Illinois as a mold maker for 37 years before his retirement in 1988. He enjoyed wood carving, motorcycle riding, tinkering in the garage, but most of all he loved spending time with his friends and family.

Survivors include his children, Eugenia Mitchell, Evelyn Schallenberg, Raymond (Pam) Stonecipher, Candy (Wayne) Hall, Sue Stonecipher, Barb Stonecipher, Steve Stonecipher, and John (Brandy) Stonecipher; a son-in-law, Terry Mulligan; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents and wife, Alberta, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lenora "Stoney" Mulligan; two sons-in-law, Ron Schallenberg and James Mitchell; five brothers; and three sisters.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 4 to 7 pm, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto; where services will also be held on Friday, January 5, 2024, at 10 am. Pastor Seeram Garney will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Military honors will be performed by Alton VFW Post 1308.
