Oleta Wieneke, 88, formerly of Alton, passed away at 6:22 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Bethalto Care Center.
Born Nov. 20, 1929 in Union, MO, she was a daughter of Frank D. and Tilda (Breeden) Pope.
She married Leland M. Wieneke July 27, 1946 in Alton. He preceded her in death Feb. 4, 1994. Oleta was a proud member of the East Alton American Legion Post #794 Ladies’ Auxiliary for many years.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Caren Wieneke of Moro; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Stephanie and Michael Brown; a great granddaughter, Peyton Brooke Brown; many nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Sharon Pope; and the special friends she met, both residents and staff at Glenhaven/Evergreen Place in Alton and Bethalto Care Center.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister and her husband, Irene and Paul Honaker; and her brothers, Frank E. Pope, Melvin and his wife Shirley Pope, Edward Pope, and Daniel Vondracek; her brother-in-law and his wife, Barney and Norma Wieneke; and her sister-in-law and her husband, Vera and Marvin Belk.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Apr. 5 at Paynic Home for Funerals, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Apr. 6. Pastor Gary Cook will officiate.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
