Norman Leroy Schneider, age 92 of Greenville, passed away early Saturday morning, July 12, 2025, at Greenville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2025, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Greenville. Visitation 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Our Redeemer on Thursday. Interment will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Memorial in lieu of flowers, plants, and gifts to the church or the American Farm Heritage Museum.
Norman Leroy Schneider was born October 30, 1932, in Mitchell, Illinois. He was the son of Edmund and Bertha Lindhorst Schneider. Norman was one of six children and the last of his generation. He grew up on the family farm, attended the local schools and graduated from High School. Norman answered our countries call to duty and served in the United States Army. He enlisted May 21, 1953, and was honorably discharged after service receiving the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Service Ribbon.
Norman and Esther M. Faust were united in marriage on July 14, 1956, at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in St. Louis, Missouri. They enjoyed 52 years together before her passing on December 31, 2008. They had two children, who both survive: Leroy Schneider and wife Paula of St. Elmo, Illinois and Gary Schneider of Greenville, Illinois. Grandfather to Bryant Schneider, Matt Schneider and wife Tahra, and Kayla Waller. Great-Grandfather to Cheyenne and Eli.
He was a dedicated farmer most of his life and drove truck. Norman worked at McDonald Douglas in St. Louis for several years. Norman and Esther were members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Norman helped to start the American Farm Heritage Museum in Greenville and was very proud of that.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, wife, siblings: Lloyd and Floyd twin brothers, Edward, Arnold, and a brother at birth.
