Norma Berkley

Norma Lee Berkley, age 87, passed away from Alzheimer's disease on July 3, 2018, at Stearns Nursing and Rehabilitative Center in Granite City, Illinois. In hospice care for only a few days prior to her death, Norma died peacefully in her sleep.
She was the only child born of the marriage of Ralph Hunt and Anna LaVon (Wright) Elliott. On July 24, 1948, she married Louis A. Berkley in Elsberry, Missouri. They were married for 43 years until his death on August 22, 1991. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Helen Hunt; step-father, Walter "Ed" Elliott, great-grandson, Nicoleus Levi Noel “Nic” Berkley; brothers, Jackie Todd and Gerald "Jerry" Todd; step-brother Buddy Davis and step-sister Betty McDonald.
She is survived by her four sons, Dennis (Georgia), Terry, Louis Jr., and Tim (Sherry); eight grandchildren; Erica Brown, Nathan Berkley, Michael Berkley, Misty Berkley, Louis Reed, Andrew Berkley, William Berkley, and Brian (Kayla) Berkley; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis (Dickie) Gladney of Clarksville, Missouri; and a brother, Gary (Jean) Hunt of Bethalto, Illinois.
Norma owned and operated Norma's Poodle Palace, a dog grooming business in Roxana, Illinois, for nearly fifty years until the age of 81. Norma always enjoyed dancing and, later in life, she loved taking cruises and traveling the world with a group of friends and her close companion, Salvatore "Sam" Manzella.
A private service was held at Mark's Mortuary in Wood River on July 5, 2018. Following cremation, her ashes were interred next to her husband at Wanda Cemetery.
