Nora Maynard

October 11, 2016, Nora Jean Maynard, 88, met her Savior face to face at 12:10 p.m..  

  Born June 11, 1928 in Pittsburg, Jean was the daughter of Bert and Grace (Sims) Fuller.

  Grace later married Paul Mandrell who became Jean's daddy and loved her like his own.  

  On February 3, 1947, Jean married Bertis Maynard in Pittsburg, who preceded her in death on January 12, 1998.  Their four children are Rick Maynard of Woodston, Kansas; Rex and Mary (Lincoln) Maynard, Janice and Steve Futrell, Joy and Randy Settle, all of East Alton; seven grandchildren, Julie (Troy) Futrell Arnoldi, James (Jessica) Futrell, Andy Maynard, Will and (Ashly) Maynard, Bethany (Jeremy) Settle Martin, Ben (Julie) Settle, Luke Settle; fourteen great-grandchildren, Brandon and Brooke Beckerdite, Addison, Regan and Logan Arnoldi, Claire Futrell, Alex Maynard, Lucy and Vince Maynard, Emma, Leo, Eli and Nora Martin, and Lindsey Jean Settle.

  A member of Bethel Free Will Baptist Church, Jean dedicated her life to teaching Sunday School to children and adults.  She opened her home to neighborhood children for Good News Clubs where she taught them about the love of Jesus through songs and stories.  She was involved in Women's Auxiliary (now Women Active for Christ) to support missionaries throughout the world.  She also taught kindergarten at Bethel Christian Academy.  Her main goal in life was to help people know and have a relationship with Christ.

  Also surviving are her sisters Jane (Forrest) Tolbert of Pittsburg, Sue (Larry) Webb, of Marion, Peggy (Fuller) Enoch of San Antonio, Texas; her brothers, Dick Mandrell and Bill Mandrell both of Pittsburg; sister-in-law, Maxine Grounds of Alton and numerous nieces and nephews.   Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Paula and Kay Mandrell, Jerri (Fuller) Vaughn and brother Dale Mandrell. 

 A celebration of Jean's life will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.,  Friday, October 14, 2016, at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church in South Roxana where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016.  Rev. John Hollis will officiate.

  Burial will be at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.

  Memorials may be made to Bethel Free Will Baptist Church or Pittsburg Free Will Baptist Church where she was a member while living in Pittsburg to care for her parents.

  A special thank you to Bethalto Care Center for their loving care for our mom for over nine years.
