Nickolas Vidakovich

Nickolas D. Vidakovich, 85, passed away Monday, July 11, 2016 at OSF St. Anthony Health Center in Alton.
Born December 11, 1930 in Hartford, the son of John and Katherine (Zagas) Vidakovich. He was a first generation child of his parents after their immigration from Croatia.
A U.S. army, Korean War veteran, he had worked as a pipefitter for the Olin Corporation before retiring. He was a member of Pipefitters Local #555 and Labor Local #338 as well as the Wood River Moose Lodge #1349, Wood River K of C, and Wood River eagles Club.
He enjoyed and shot Trap and Skeet, hunting and fishing , but most of all watching his grandchildren being involved in their activities.
He married Shirley Wesemann on September 21, 1959 in Troy, IL. She died September 1, 1982.
Surviving are a daughter, Stephanie (Jim) Schley of Wood River; grandchildren, Karly and Derek Schley; brother, Joe (Jessie) Vidakovich of Wood River; sisters, Josephine Doll of St. Peters, MO and his twin, Katherine Mayer of St. Louis; sister-in-law, Lois Rodenbaug; several nieces and nephews; and longtime companion, Clara Brud.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife; daughter, Teresa Vidokovich; four brothers, John, Louis, Robert and Steve Vidakovih, and three sisters, Evelyn Daly, Mary Varble and Helen Vidakovich.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, where services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday. Pastor Mark Hofferber will officiate.
Burial will follow in Woodland Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran School in Bethalto.
