Nellie Ray

Nellie L. Ray, 95, passed away at 2:35 pm, Monday, October 10, 2016, at Integrity Health Care of Wood River, with her four daughters by her side.She was born October 15, 1920, in Fayette County, the daughter of Henry and Nellie L. (Poland) Break.She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, a charter member of Leisure World. She loved to travel with her family. She had been to 49 states, Mexico, and Canada. At the age of 88, she went to Disney World with her family and rode all the roller coasters.Nellie married Richard E. Ray, Sr. in February 1941, in St. Charles, Missouri. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1978.Survivors include four daughters and their spouses, Nancy Zumwalt of Bethalto, Sue and Dennis Ratliff of Wood River, Vicki and Martin Myers of Bethalto, Karen and Walter Moss of East Alton; eleven grandchildren, Rhonda, Patricia, Richard, Lisa, Darren, Anglia, Allison, Jeremy, Jared, Jason, and Walter; twenty great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Richard E. Ray, Jr., one grandson, Robert “Biff” Zumwalt; three brothers; and one sister.Visitation will be at 11:00 am until time of service at 12:00 pm, noon, on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, with Pastor Willard Meyer officiating.
