Nelda Bernice Allen, 75, of Washington MO, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, MO,
She was born to the late Harold and Mildred (Clinard) Nicholls on November 24, 1948, in Granite City, IL. Nelda was a member of the Peace Tabernacle Church in Hillsboro, MO. The loving mom and granny found great joy in spending time with her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She enjoyed hot cups of coffee by the fireplace and sitting on the lake. In her early life, she enjoyed gardening and working to support her family. Later, when she moved into the nursing home, she loved being surrounded by her friends there; eating popcorn and drinking Diet Pepsi with them. Her face lit up when her kids and grandkids came to visit her and take her on walks around the lake and eat with her at the nursing home. She would always end their visits telling them: “I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.” They will never forget that for as long as they live. No matter what they will always know that Granny really loved them and they all brought her so much joy.
Nelda is survived by her children: Robert (Bobby) and Jamie Allen of Lake St Louis, MO, Dale Allen of Holiday, FL, and Melissa (Missy) Allen of Lonedell, MO; 6 grandchildren: Robby (Jenny) Allen, Andy Allen, Maranda (Donnie Seals) Allen, Nevaeh Nevermore, Kaitlynn Allen, Noah Allen; 2 great-grandchildren: Weston Seals and Colton Seals; 2 brothers: Michael Nicholls, Kevin Nicholls; 3 sisters: Diane Drewry, Debbie (Danny) Hill, Beverly Holmes; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by a brother: Terry Nicholls.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2024, at Wojstrom Funeral Home in Pontoon Beach, IL.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Mitchell, 608 English Place, Granite City, IL.
Burial to follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Glen Carbon, IL.
