Naomia Gillespie

Naomia C. Gillespie, age 92, of Godfrey, passed away peacefully, Sunday, January 1, 2017, at Eunice Smith Home in Alton.She was born October 31, 1924, in Alton, the daughter of Gerald and Hilda (Bristow) Durborow. She married Donald Stewart Gillespie on January 1, 1946, and he preceded her in death on February 17, 1995.Naomia was a long time member of Upper Alton Baptist Church. She was noted as being Alton Halloween Parade’s Biggest Fan. A weaver, she was a member of Lewis and Clark Weaver’s Guild. She and her husband participated in the Heritage Days Festivals.She is survived by two children and their spouses, Peter and Michelle Gillespie of Dow, and Denise and Chris Herrington of Brentwood, MO; two grandchildren, Patrick and Meghan Gillespie and Megan Gillespie; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to her husband, Donald; she is preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Donald F. Durborow.Visitation will be held Friday, January 6, 2017, from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 10:00 am in the funeral home chapel.Burial will take place in Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crisis Food Center 21 E.
