Nancy L Buettner, 85, passed away at 10:46 pm, Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Rosewood Care Center of Alton.
She was born in Alton, Illinois on December 13, 1931 the daughter of the late Harvey and Delia (Wiegand) Powell.
On August 24, 1951, she married Oliver Buettner in Pocahontas, AR. He preceded her in death on November 7, 2011.
Nancy was a member of the East Alton 1st United Methodist Church for many years, spending much of her time volunteering there in several different programs. She and her husband enjoyed camping and traveling, having been to 49 states over the years. She enjoyed anything to do with gardening, especially the Botanical Gardens in St. Louis. She enjoyed playing games with Scrabble and Rummikub being her favorites. Her and her husband built their home and she lived there most of her life before recently moving to Villa Rose where she met many dear new friends, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter and her spouse, Nancy and Gary Hawkins, of West Alton; two sons and their wives, John and Lisa Buettner of Fresno CA, and Mark and Heather Buettner of Alton; six grandchildren, Kyle Hawkins, John and Zachary Buettner, Jackie, Maddy, and Abby Buettner; sister Marjorie Healy.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother William Powell.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm Thursday April 13, 2017 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, IL.
Funeral service will be at noon on Friday April 14, 2017 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.
Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to 1st United Methodist Church of East Alton.
