Nancy Gray

Nancy A. Gray was called to Heaven on Saturday, April 6, 2024.  She passed away peacefully at the age of 78 with her family by her side at her home. Born February 12, 1946, in Venice, Illinois, she was a daughter of the late Gus and Angeline (Mangiaricino) Scaturro. 

Nancy married the love of her life, Jimmy J. Gray on May 3, 1969, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Venice, Illinois and he passed away on June 20, 2011.  Nancy had retired from Wal-Mart in Granite City after many years of dedicated service in Accounting and as the Craft Department manager. She had also worked at the Melvin Price Support Center in Granite City and loved her days working at the St. Elizabeth School cafeteria.  Nancy was a dedicated and faithful member of St. Elizabeth Parish and was a devout prayer warrior for all. 

She had a love for crocheting and sewing, was known for her baking and cooking and enjoyed scrapbooking. She was a true example of a matriarch of the family and cherished her two beloved grandchildren.  Nancy, known for her kind heart, generous spirit and joyful presence, lived a full life as a strong devoted Christian and loyal mother, nana, wife and friend. 

She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Jeff Fischer of Glen Carbon and JoAnn and Jason Wilson of Granite City; two grandchildren, Michael Adams and Makayla Adams; a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Sitton of Granite City; three brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Bob Fechte of Granite City, Ed and Marie Gray of Granite City and Larry Gray of Granite City; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.  In addition to her beloved husband of 42 years and parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Billy Adams; her siblings and their spouses, Mary and Tony Bellue, Leo and Delores Scaturro, Irene and Herb Wein, Dom and Elnora Scaturro, Dolores Fechte and Louie and Deloris Scaturro; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Pete and Dorothy (Downs) Gray; brother-in-law, Paul Sitton and sister-in-law, Sheron Gray.  In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. 

Visitation will continue at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City on Friday, April 12, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until time of a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with Father Alfred Tumwesigye as celebrant.  Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.  Memorials may be made to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church or to Masses and may be accepted at the funeral chapel.  True to her nature, Nancy was a beautiful soul, full of joy and love for her family and friends, up through her final days.  Condolences may be made at www.irwinchapel.com.
