Nancy Ettling

Nancy Ann Ettling, 85, of Wood River, IL, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 12:35 a.m. at Cedarhurst Assisted Living Center in Bethalto surrounded by her family. She was born on December 30, 1940, in Nokomis, IL, the daughter of the late Clyde and Loretta (Crow) Read. She married Charles Ettling on March 23, 1963, in Nokomis, IL and he preceded her in death on April 17, 2020.

Nancy was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, daughter, and sister who dedicated her life to homemaking and raising four children. She enjoyed spending time with family, spoiling her grandchildren, shopping, especially on QVC; watching soap operas and CSI style shows, reading magazines, and decorating with her vast snowman collection during the holidays. She had a big sweet tooth and two of her favorites were Oreos and sugar donuts. She always made the holidays extra special with her baked goods and famous cheeseball. Nancy was the heart of her family and will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her children: Dr. Jeffery (Holly) Ettling of Ballwin, MO, Timothy Ettling of Bethalto, IL, Jill (Lorin) Smith of East Alton, IL, Brian Ettling of Hammond, IN, grandchildren: Mallory (Trevor) Riley, Cody (Sidney) Smith, Timothy Smith, Lee Smith, Simon Bramblett, and Ryan Bolanos, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; sister, Judy Wild and brother, Jerry Crow.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 11:00-12:00 at Stiehl Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis. Funeral service will begin immediately following the visitation starting at 12:00 Noon at Stiehl Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis with Pastor Jeff Van Dyke officiating. Burial will be in Witt Cemetery in Witt, IL.
