JERSEYVILLE- Morris Freeman Long, 86, died at 11:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis County, MO.He was born in Jerseyville on Oct. 5, 1928, and was the son of the late Anderson Jones & Christina (Liles) Long Sr.Morris served his country during World War II with the U.S. Navy, and worked in the manufacturing sector his entire life. He began working at Baughmanns in Jerseyville, and later accepted employment with Olin Brass Mill in East Alton, where he was employed for thirty years retiring in 1990.He was formerly married to Lu (Eisler) Long and together they had five children. He enjoyed collecting and recycling cans, and was an avid bowler, participating in various leagues throughout the years, and continued to enjoy the sport up until the day he died.Surviving are three daughters & sons in law, Tammy & Jeff Dillard of Chester, Mary Jo & Shannon Howland of Hamburg, and Marlene Long, and her companion, Artie Newton of Bowling Green, Ky.; 17 Grandchildren; 17 Great Grandchildren; and his former wife, Lu Long of Jerseyville; and two daughters in law, Tammy Long and Juanita Long both of Jerseyville.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sons, Charles "Chucky" Long on Sept. 8, 2010 and Steven Morris Long on May 19, 2011; and three brothers, Anderson Long Jr., Floyd S. Long, and MylasWoolsey.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Tuesday. Rev. John Gibson will officiate.Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, and Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 will conduct military graveside rites.Memorials may be given to the Jerseyville Parks & Recreation Department.
