Mildred Proffitt

Mildred Proffitt, 94, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois. She was born on February 19, 1932, in Lawrence County, Illinois, to the late Arnold and Martha (Crawford) Proffitt.

On August 20, 1949, Mildred Alford married the love of her life, Robert Proffitt, in Granite City. They shared a life together until his passing on May 18, 2013.

For more than 75 years, Mildred was a faithful member of Solid Rock Free Methodist Church in Pontoon Beach, Illinois. She retired after 17 years of dedicated service in the housekeeping department at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Granite City.

Outgoing and warmhearted, Mildred never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a hand. Nothing brought her more joy than time with her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren she loved to spoil. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mildred was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Howard Crowson, and by her 15 siblings.

She is survived by her loving children, Regina (David Blackwell) Crowson and Randall (Angela) Proffitt, both of Granite City; dear grandchildren, Hollie (Kris) Batema, Justin (Katie) Crowson, Rob (Jen) Proffitt and Stacey (Mike) Cremer; dear great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Logan, Judith, Iris, Timothy, Emily and Maddie; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel in Granite City. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Michael Aden officiating.

Mildred will be laid to rest beside Robert at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, Illinois.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association and will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
