Mildred G. Underwood

Mildred G. Underwood, 80 went to be with the Lord and receive her reward at 11 pm on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Alton Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.

She was born on July 1, 1929 in Marquand, MO, the daughter of Floyd & Florence (Sitze) Cloninger.

She married Basil O. Underwood on October 23, 1948 in Glen Allen, MO. He survives.

Mildred worked at Barleff's Clothing Store in the alteration department. She also did private alterations in her home. She was a member of Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in Bethalto. She will be remembered for her kindness, gentleness and generosity.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her children and their spouses, Donna & Gary Hartsock of East Alton and Dennis & Vanda Underwood of Bethalto; four grandchildren and their spouses, Ginger & Rev. Jason Pierce of Bethalto, Jason & Sandy Hartsock of Bethalto, Barry Underwood of Chicago, IL and Tara Underwood of Bethalto; four great grandchildren, Lindsey & Ryan Pierce and Kate & Nicholas Hartsock; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Truman & Betty Cloninger of Woodburn and Vurel & Nancy Cloninger of Washington; a niece she raised, Joycelyn Perez of Texas; a cousin, who was like her sister, Louenia Slinkard of Cottage Hills and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Rev. Oren Cloninger and a sister, Rev. Grace Marr.

In celebration of her life visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm on Friday, March 5, 2010 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Funeral services will be at 11 am on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in Bethalto with Pastor Phil Schneider officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to the Cornerstone Assembly of God Church.
