Mildred Hughes

JERSEYVILLE-  Mildred B. Hughes, 90, died on Saturday, September 3, 2011, just two days shy of her 91st birthday, at the Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.She was born in Kampsville on Sept, 5, 1920, and was the daughter of the late Joseph & Elizabeth (Herzog) Koenig.Mildred moved to Jerseyville in 1943  and began working at the International Shoe Factory as a shoe cutter.She married Charles Hughes Sr. on Oct. 23, 1948 at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, and together they shared nearly 33 years together before his death on April 7, 1981.Surviving are a daughter & son in law, Georgia & Gilbert Kallal of Florissant, Mo.; three sons & daughters in law, Charles & Melodee Hughes Jr. of Godfrey, Joseph Hughes of Godfrey, and Dr. Raymond & Diane Hughes of Jerseyville; seven grandchildren, Charles Hughes III and his fiance' Sara Tojo of Collinsville, Stephanee Hughes a student at the University of Missouri-Columbia, Benjamin Kallal of Ames, Ia., Adam Kallal of Florissant, Mo., Robert Hughes and Kimberly Hughes both students at the University of Illinois-Champaign, and John Hughes of Jerseyville; and a brother, George Koenig of Jerseyville.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Koenig & Joseph Koenig; three sisters, Mary Roth, Clara Kelly & Elizabeth Hughes.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Crawford Funeral  Home in Jerseyville, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father William Hembrow officiating.Burial will be in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to the Holy Ghost Altar Society, St. Jude's Childrens Hospital or to Masses.
