Michelle Watson

With hearts full of love and sorrow, the family of Michelle Lynn Watson, age 54, of Collinsville, Illinois, announces her peaceful passing into Heaven on Thursday, October 9, 2025, surrounded by her devoted family at home.

Born on February 2, 1971, in Granite City, Illinois, Michelle was the cherished daughter of Delbert and Helen (Cox) Parnell. From the very beginning, her life was marked by kindness, creativity, and an unwavering faith that inspired all who knew her.

Michelle was a woman of grace, courage, and humor. She had the rare gift of making every person she met feel seen, heard, and loved — truly, she never met a stranger. Whether lending a helping hand, offering a listening ear, or simply sharing her warm smile, Michelle shared the Gospel and radiated the love of Christ in everything she did.

A lifelong learner, Michelle earned her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Missouri Baptist University and was also a proud graduate of Miss Hickey’s School of Business.

On June 2, 2007, she married the love of her life, Stephen Watson, in a beautiful ceremony in Leavenworth, Indiana. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, devotion, and enduring faith.

Michelle was a faithful member of Victory Bible Baptist Church in Collinsville, where she served as church pianist and her Pastor’s secretary. In music, she used her remarkable talents for both the choir and congregation, including playing the piano and flute, and singing for her Savior. She was the strength behind countless church events as planner, organizer, and decorator who kept everything and everyone wonderfully connected.

Beyond her service, Michelle’s joy shone bright when she was with her family, including many beloved pets. She delighted in crafting, decorating, exploring antique shops in search of hidden treasure, and creating memories that will forever live in the hearts of those she loved.

Michelle is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Helen Cox, her brother, Jeff Parnell, and former husband Michael Kafka.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Stephen Watson of Collinsville, IL; her cherished children, Jonathan Kafka, Faith Kafka, and Jacob Watson, all of Collinsville; her beloved father, Delbert Parnell of Granite City, IL; her treasured niece and nephew, Megan and Nathan Parnell; her loving mother-in-law, Mary Kafka of Edwardsville, as well as extended family, countless dear friends and church family who were blessed to have known her.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 17, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Victory Bible Baptist Church, 2007 Belt Line Road, Collinsville, IL.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the church, with Pastor Chris Shurilla officiating. Michelle will be lovingly laid to rest at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Victory Bible Baptist Church online at www.victorybbc.com, or to Siteman Cancer Center at siteman.wustl.edu/tribute. Donations will be accepted at the church.

Michelle’s light, laughter, and love will continue to shine in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
