Michael Young

Michael Leo Young, 79, of Swansea, IL, born July 21, 1946, in St. Louis, MO, died Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at EverVella of Swansea, Swansea, IL.

Michael Young, the eldest of five children born to Michael and Ruth Young, lived a life defined by curiosity, friendship, and a love of adventure. An international banker by profession, Mike’s career took him across the globe, allowing him to experience life in Australia, Philippines, Canada and Dubai, before ultimately settling in Washington, D.C. Wherever he went, he embraced new cultures and built lasting friendships, leaving a warm impression on everyone he met.

Mike had a deep love for sports and camaraderie. He could often be found on the tennis or pickleball courts or cheering on his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. He especially cherished time spent with friends and family, including his many friends at the Belleville Health and Sports Club. If you knew Mike, you were his friend, his quick wit, easy smile, and constant supply of jokes made him the life of every gathering. He will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and the joy he brought to those fortunate enough to know him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael R. and Ruth M., nee Mount, Young.

Surviving are his three children and grandchildren, Faith Ann (Tom) (Grandchildren Indi and Sky), Michael (Kaitlyn) Young (Grandchild Teddy and one on the way), and Johann Young; his two brothers, two sisters, and their children, Patrick M. (Vickie) Young of Belleville, IL, and their sons, Matthew (Anna), Thomas, and Patrick (Amber), Maryruth (Sean) O’Hagan of St. Louis, MO, and their children, Maeghan (William), Brendan (Emily), and Brian (Shannon), Susan Jones of Edwardsville, IL, and children, Suzanne (Matt), Allison (Sean), and Harrison (Kristen), and Joseph T. (Kim) Young of Belleville, IL, and their children, Ryan, Nicholas (Kate), and Mackenzie.

Memorials may be made to Vitas Hospice Care of Illinois. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Family and Friends will gather for a memorial mass at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, April 12, 2026, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.
