Michael P. Shelton, 61, of Bethalto, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at 9:00 pm, at his residence.
He was born on October 23, 1956, in Alton, IL, the son of Howard L. and Virginia E. (Bridgeman) Shelton, both preceded him in death. He married Cathleen Johnson on March 19, 1976 in East Alton. She survives.
Michael liked to drive and build hot rod cars. He was a member of the National Street Rod Association. Michael and his family traveled in their hot rods throughout the United States making life-long friends. He was also an avid antique collector. He loved to watch his grandchildren play. Michael was very loved and will be missed by all, especially his cats.
Along with his wife, Michael is survived by three children, Elisha Shelton of Bethalto, Jenna Shelton of Bethalto, and Mikka (Nathan) Hollaway of East Alton; six grandchildren, Shelton and Aniston Naumann, Meliska Shelton, Trenton, Tyson and Tobin Hollaway; siblings, Judy Davis of Fairview Heights and Kathy (Jim) Budde of Alton; mother-in-law, Herta Johnson; several brothers and sisters in law; as well as several nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Howard LeRoy Shelton II; and his father-in-law, Darrell Johnson.
A celebration of life will be on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 from 4 pm until time of service at 6 pm, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Reverend Ray Robinson will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded. Hot Rods and Hot Rod Apparel are requested for Michael’s Celebration of Life.
Memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association and/or The American Cancer Society.
