Michael “Mikey” Jacob Karlas, 44, of Wood River, IL, passed away Sat. Sept. 16, 2017 at 6:08 p.m. at OSF St. Anthony’s Health Center ER.
He was born Aug. 30, 1973 in Alton, IL to Kathy (Baker) Karlas of East Alton, IL and the late Kenneth Karlas.
On Mar. 30, 2013, he and Kay Helen Eberhart were married in New Orleans, LA. She survives in Wood River.
Mikey owned and operated M.K. Construction for the last 20 years and was a member of Laborer’s Local #338 and the Wood River Moose. He was a boating enthusiast and loved the water and the beach. Mikey was known for his incredible bargaining skills. He found treasures everywhere and was an avid “picker”.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters, whom he loved with all his heart: Haley Karlas and Elaine Karlas of Rosewood Heights, IL; a brother: Tommy Karlas of Nashville, TN; a sister: Kerri Karlas of Godfrey; an aunt, Karen Baker Brncic of Rosewood Heights; and aunts and uncles: Barbie (Chad) Tyler of East Alton, Bradley Baker of Naples, FL, Steve (Robin) Karlas of Godfrey, Bobby (Angie) Karlas of Wood River, Susie (Jerry) Wenzara of O'Fallon, MO, Maxine Calhoon of Bethalto, IL, aunt Alice; and many nieces, nephews cousins and friends.
Besides his father, he was preceded in death by grandparents, Jim & Elaine Baker and Gladys & Louie Karlas and an uncle, Bob Brncic.
The family will hold a Remembrance Thursday, Sept. 21 at the Alton Marina Pavilion from 5:00 p.m. until memorial services begin at 6:00 p.m.
