Michael "Mike" Joseph Hapgood II

Michael "Mike" Joseph Hapgood II, age 17, passed away at 4:20 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Barnes Jewish Hospital after a car accident.

He was born July 18, 1992 in Alton, the son of Michael J. Hapgood of Cottage Hills and Diana (Talley) Williams and her husband Jim Williams of Cottage Hills.

Mike was a student at Civic Memorial High School and would have been going into his junior year of high school. He was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Cottage Hills and the Bethalto Boy's Scout Troop #101 until the age of 15. He loved to fish, camp, hike, and loved to be outdoors. He enjoyed throwing knives, stars and playing D & D.

He is survived by his parents, two sisters, Pauline E. Hapgood of Cottage Hills and Lisa Hapgood of Fenton, MO; maternal great grandmother, Ruth Nelson of VA, paternal grandmother, Sue Williams of Alton; two uncles, Bill Williams of Alton and Ron Mullen of Prairietown; three aunts and their husbands, Elisa & Andy Knight of Bethalto, Jody & Jeff Britton of Bethalto and Wendy Mullen and her husband Ralph Kleff of St. Louis County; two nephews, Andrew and Jonathan and numerous cousins, great aunts and uncles and several friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal great grandparents, William & Luevena Nelson, maternal grandparents, Robert & Pauline Halbert, paternal great grandmother, Norma Henander and paternal grandfather, Bill Williams.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until funeral service at 1 p.m. at the 1st Baptist Church in Cottage Hills, IL on Saturday, August 15, 2009 with Pastor Joe Hagley officiating.

Burial will be at Wanda Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Boy's and Girl's Club of America.

Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
