Michael Lee Frye, 73, passed away 11:25 a.m., Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Born in St. Louis on September 6, 1944, he was the son of George and June (Villinger) Ogilive.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served in Germany from 1967-68. He graduated from the Vocational Technical Institute in Carbondale then working for Shell Oil for 25 years before retiring in 1995. In addition, he owned Frye Upholstry in Rosewood Heights.
Michael had served on the Board of Directors for Midwest Members Credit Union for 38 years, 29 years as the Chairman. He was a member of the State CUPAC Board, and was the current Treasurer. Michael was a founding member of the Downs Syndrome Association of Southern Illinois; was a member of Wood River Masonic Lodge #1062 and very active in DeMolay..
Michael had a passion for motor sports, he would say, "If it didn't have an engine and wheels, it wasn't a sport." He spent many years " He spent many years racing dirt bikes at Splinter Creek Motorcycle Club and his own cars with the Sports car Club of America, was a member of the Piasa Street Rods, and very active in the FBI Car Club.
Surviving are his wife, Marilyn (nee, Rieckenberg) Frye; two daughters, Jill (David) Oller of Maryville, Cory Frye of East Alton; grandchild, Riley Oller; sisters-in-law, Marsha Ehlers of Chester, Mila Biermann of Steelville, IL; sister and brother-in-law, Karen (Dave) Youngberg of Murphysboro.
His parents and brother-in-law, Jerry Ehlers preceded in death.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until time of service at 6 p.m. Friday, May 18 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River. Pastor Michael Southcombe will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Kiwanis Club f Wood River, which he was a member; Challenge Unlimited; or the Rosewood Heights Fire Protection District.
