Michael Haag

Michael Thomas Haag Jr., 93, passed away peacefully at 8:22 a.m., Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at his home in Jerseyville.

He was born on October 19, 1930 in Alton, Illinois and was the son of the late Michael Thomas and Eva (Westfall) Haag Sr.

His career as a Laborer with Archer Daniels Midland in Alton, Illinois began in 1969, dedicating 23 years of service, prior to his retirement in October of 1992.

He married Donna Ruth Collins on July 23, 1949 at Cherry Street Baptist Church in Alton, and together their marriage was blessed with nearly 70 years, prior to her death on July 9, 2019.

Michael and Donna began their married life in Alton, where they remained for the first twenty years, prior to moving their family to Jersey County in 1967. They purchased a farm outside of Fieldon where they remained for many years, until moving to Jerseyville.

Together, they spent many wonderful years sharing moments with family and friends. They traveled extensively throughout the United States and especially enjoyed the winter months spent in Alamo, Texas and Mission, Texas, acquiring numerous friendships in the twenty years that they traveled. While in Texas, they enjoyed sharing in a good game of pinochle and Michael learned to play the guitar and mandolin.

Surviving are a daughter, Phyllis Staton of Jerseyville; two sons and a daughter in-law, Steve and Debbie Haag of Jerseyville and Brian Haag of Thermal, California; five grandchildren and their spouses, Lisa and John Dockler of Foristell, Missouri, Angie Elliott of Jerseyville, Kimberly Haag of Wood River, Catherine Staton of Moro and Michelle Staton of Jerseyville; four great grandchildren, twins, Allison and Carley, Jacob and Mylee.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Michael and Winifred Herbstreit.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, February 19, 2024 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Tuesday.

Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

For those desiring, memorials may be given to Fieldon United Church of Christ, where Michael and Donna were longtime members.
