Michael Eugene Scoggins, 62, died at 8:53 p.m., Monday, December 11, 2017 at his son's residence in Greenfield after a long illness.He was born in Carrollton, and was the fourth of nine children born to Robert Russell and Emma Jean (Kaiser) Scoggins.He was a 1972 graduate of Jersey Community High School, and in his early years had worked at the Grafton Boat Works.     He later began working as a welder for National Maintenance & Repair in Hartford, retiring after 20 years of service."Santie-Claus-Sammie" as he was known to his family, cherished his time spent with each and every one of them.   He enjoyed anything outdoors, especially if it involved fishing or barbecuing.  He also enjoyed roller skating and dancing, and always seemed to be the scapegoat for his younger brothers antics.He is survived by his three children and a daughter in-law, Michael Leon Scoggins and his companion, Natasha Cruthis of Greenfield, Justin and Elizabeth Scoggins of Kane, and Tara Scoggins and her fiance' Rick Wayman of Nokomis; two grandchildren, Clayton Scoggins and Hannah Scoggins, and two "adopted" grandchildren as well, Emily Tuey and Teresa Murphy; along with his former wife and mother of his three children, Sherrie Lenington of Carrollton.He is also survived by two sisters and a brother in law, Shirley and Gary Thompson of Jerseyville, and Joleen Shaw of Greenfield; four brothers and a sister in-law, Robert Scoggins of Rushville, Johnny Scoggins and his fiance' Mary Lane of Medora, Russell "Rusty" Scoggins and his companion, Barb Murphy of Jerseyville, and Jerry and Yamily Scoggins of Wimauma, Florida; along with two brothers in-law, Leonard "Sandy" Sutton of Grafton and Joseph Blake of Searcy, Arkansas.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Christina Sutton and Mildred Blake; and a brother in-law, Kenneth Shaw.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 14, 2017.   The Rev. Sonny Renken will officiate.Burial will be in the Kane Cemetery.Memorials may be given to his family in care of the funeral home to assist with expenses.
