Michael Eugene Creekpaum, 65, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 31, 2017. He died bravely fighting his battle with stomach cancer.
He was born Jan. 10, 1952 in Murphysboro, IL, the son of Bobby E. and Verna (Crow) Creekpaum.
He is survived by his domestic partner of 30 years, Annie M. Homer, his youngest sister, Susan Creekpaum, all of his children, Holly R. Creekpaum, Michelle L. Proffer and husband, Amy J. McLaughlin and husband, Nicole G. Sevier, Amanda M. Blackburn, John J. Creekpaum, Robert M. Creekpaum and wife, Jimmy E. Creekpaum and wife, Amie M. Huber, and two stepchildren, Stevie E. Homer, Jr. and wife, and Tia A. Homer.
He is also survived by 20 grandsons, 11 granddaughters, 1 great grandson, and 1 great granddaughter.
He is predeceased by his parents and younger sister, Julia Hannel and 2 grandsons.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1970-1972. He was a truck driver/laborer most of his life, but also worked at Laclede Steel in Alton for 3 years. He had a love of fishing in his spare time, proud to catch a catfish that weighed about 100 pounds. Michael was always happy to make people laugh, which always made his day. He loved all of his children and was grateful for living his life. In 1994, he survived colon cancer and was grateful to live. In 2016, he survived stomach cancer. In 2017, his stomach cancer returned aggressively. He fought to the very end.
He was cremated, and memorial visitation will be Saturday, June 3 at Paynic Home for Funerals from 10 a.m. until services begin at 11 a.m.
