Michael “Dennis” McKinney Sr., 59, died at 9:38 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born April 9, 1958 in Alton, he was the son of Betty (Larson) McKinney of Godfrey and the late Donald McKinney. Dennis attended the Illinois School for Deaf as well as the National Technical Institute for Deaf in Rochester, NY and the Rochester Institute of Technology. He was a senior lab technician for Bassler Electric for 30 years. On April 5, 1985 he married the former Jana Sue Locke in Wood River. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Michael D. McKinney Jr. (Idalia) of Wood River and Sam McKinney (Ashley) of Culver City, CA, a granddaughter, Zoe McKinney, and a sister, Susan Bennett (Inslee) of Edmond, OK. Along with his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Marty McKinney. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Reverend Jerry MeCaskey will officiate. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
