Melvin Dixon

OTTERVILLE-  Melvin Lee Dixon, 66, died suddenly at 6:21 a.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the scene of an automobile accident just north of Otterville on Otterville Road.He was born on Oct. 28, 1944 in Calhoun County, one of four children born to the late Milo & Zoe (Pegram) Dixon.Melvin graduated in 1964 from Calhoun High School in Hardin, and held various jobs in the local factories before accepting employment with the City of Jerseyville, where he served with the Police Department for 16 years.  He then began over the road truck driving, and was currently employed as a driver and hauler for A&F Trucking in Jerseyville.Melvin served several terms on the Otterville Town Board, and was a member of the Jerseyville Elks Lodge, National Rifle Association, and enjoyed restoring cars and riding Harley Davidsons.He married the former Kimberley Kraushaar on Nov. 3, 1981 in Alton, and they soon were to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary.In addition to his wife, surviving are four children & their spouses, Steve & Julia Dixon of Fieldon, Sandra & Robert Lenington of Goodfield, Pamela Sue Dixon of Niagra Falls, NY., and Nathan & Melissa Lueker of Andalusia, Il.; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Karrick of Jerseyville and Mary Lou Briggs of Virginia state; and his father in law & mother in law, Clifford & Marilyn Kraushaar of Otterville.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stephanie Frank; a brother, Milton Dixon; and a brother in law, Clyde Briggs.Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday.  Rev. John Gibson of the Eastland Baptist Church in Jerseyville will conduct the services.Burial will be in the Noble Cemetery in Otterville.Memorials may be given to the family in care of the funeral home.
